We visited a coffee plantation called Silva Negra ("Black Forest"), run by a German immigrant family since 1872. The plantation includes some cloud forest habitat, and is being adapted in part for eco-tourism with cabins, tours, trails, an orchid collection, organic food production, and a restaurant. This photo shows the lush growth in the cabin/restaurant area. The building on the hillside is a chalet-like chapel. Only wealthier Nicaraguans and foreign tourists could afford this place.
