Wikipedia again:

"Lehder built a 3,300-foot runway protected by radar, bodyguards and Doberman attack dogs for the fleet of aircraft under his command. In the glory days of his operation, 300 kilograms of cocaine would arrive on the island every hour of every day, and Lehder's personal wealth mounted into the billions."

When we visited the island in 2005 and again in 2007, the Lehder property was in disrepair.

This is indeed the Volcano House where Lehder lived during the roughly three years that he occupied, and I OCCUPIED this island. According to a book I have about Lehder, he instilled a kind of "counter-cultural" feel while he was here in the late 1970's and early '80s, he would blast the Beatles all over the place with a sophisticated (for its time) sound system. All the people on the island in Lehder's little city state, would rock out to the Beatles and Credence and test their cocaine wares. Many, many parties were held here and Lehder often flew pretty prostitutes in from Columbia during his time here. Lehder was a terrorist of sorts and even Walter Cronkite was not welcome, he got kicked off Norman's for going past the high water mark by Lehder's motley crew of German body guards wielding machine guns and fellow Columbian drug lords. Once you were out of the club so to speak, you were persona non grata. I have a lot of little tidbits like this from reading the few books devoted to this dangerous but fascinating man, Carlos Rivas Lehder.
