These are memory boats and are used as a craft exercise each year at
Camp Brave Hearts. The camp, sponsored by several hospice
organizations, is designed to help people who are dealing with grief
issues surrounding the loss of someone significant in their life.
They are given the boat as it appears on the left and asked to
decorate it however they choose to serve as a memorial to the one
who died. The one on the right was decorated by a young man named
Cameryn to honor his father.
On Saturday night, a memorial ceremony is held where one at a time,
each person lights the candle and launches their memory boat into the
lake as they say a few words about the person who died. At the end of
the ceremony the boats are all retrieved and returned to their owners
to take home.
