The XX team made it to the top of New Army Pass but wasted an hour taking a wrong turn on the trail to Mt. Langley. Cynthia decided that she would continue on to the top of the mountain while Sandy waited for her at the top of New Army Pass. Unfortunately, the weather prevented Cynthia from hiking the last 100 feet of altitude of the mountain. (The XX team rushed back to the campsite just ahead of a strong rainstorm and hiked back to the trailhead the next day in alternating rain and hail.) Here is the last photo Cynthia took on the trail. This is not the highest point she reached on the trail (sadly, she didn't capture that for posterity). This was taken about an hour before she turned back - she eventually made it up over the ridge right below the last slope up to the summit before the utter barren isolation coupled with the threatening black clouds (and the knowledge that if she got struck by lightning whilst making a late summit Bud would have killed her) made her common sense kick in. She, Sandy, and the rest of us, are pretty darn sure that Mount Langley will be there waiting when we attempt it again.
