The Blue Flag on the beach is an EU quality award given to beaches
which attain a certain standard. They must meet criteria for clean
water, freedom from pollution, safe access, sanitary facilities,
wheelchair access and information standards. Of the thirteen Blue Flag
beaches in Co Mayo, six are on Achill Island.
