1963 - Flamingos at the Miami Springs Villas

Miami Springs Villas, Miami Springs, Florida

Thanks to Brad King for contributing this image that he thinks was taken at Hialeah Race Track but he was too young to remember. Joe Podgor, famous environmentalist, believes it was at the Glenn Curtiss mansion pond in Miami Springs so I went with that for quite a while until Antolin Carbonnel wrote in and says the foliage is too dense for the Curtiss mansion. So I am going with the consensus from several reputable sources that the scene is at the Miami Springs Villas.

Guest from 22-JUN-15, and Maryann Nolan, thank you for posting your comments. And there we have it, it is the grounds at the Miami Springs Villas.

This is definitely The Villas in Miami Springs. I spent my entire childhood playing there and wandering around. It was paradise, free and always open. We were there several days a week. I can't say enough good things about that place and the positive impact it had on all the young lives in the neighborhood. This is a beautiful photo. I'm so glad I stumbled on this, as it brings back a flood of wonderful memories.

Def. the pond at the Villas, spent many a summer day secreting things to fee the duck s and flamingoes. There were a few private ponds in the springs area, and in the woods at the backof the course off Hunting Lodge Dr. a real spring!!
Lived there from 1948 til 1961!! Loved it and Miami...

I don't believe so. I've been to Hialeah Park numerous times in the 1960's and 70's, and even more in the last two years, and there is nothing there that resembles this scene in the slightest. The foliage is way too dense and tall to be on the track's infield where it would block the view of the horses on the back stretch from the fans in the grandstand.

It is definitely the Villas. We lived on LaVilla Dr. and my Aunt lived on South Drive about 3 blocks east of here.

This might have been taken at the Parrot Jungle on Red Road in South Miami, as they did have a lake with flamingoes there. Not enough of the lake to really tell.

Thanks Antolin, I've changed the description again.

Ah yes the Curtiss Mansion pond was quite a relic in its day......
At the corner of Labaron Drive & Deer Run across the street from where the duPont
home was, the little thriving pond.
But...........if you go by there today you'll see something much to be desired..... How sad to let something that unique go unattended.

Thank you Joe, if anyone would know it would be you. I'll change the description.

It looks like the pond at the Curtis Mansion/Miami Springs Villas to me.

It doesn't like anything I've ever seen at Hialeah Park so I suspect it's the Parrot Jungle or Crandon Park Zoo like you say.

Actually, I'm not sure this is the track. Could it be either the Parrot Jungle or Crandon Park Zoo?
