Note the distinctive field marks of a surfbird:

* Stout dark bill with lower mandible two colors (orange base and black tip)
* short yellow legs
* chevrons on breaast and belly during breeding season

It looks like an adult molting out of alternate plumage since it no longer has rufous in wings
but still has the heavy dark markings on the underparts.
