Pretty Petals

Closer You Get

Malaysia

I enjoy getting as close as possible to my subjects esp nature shots. However we need to be prepared to shoot macro shots with proper gears like tripod, flash..etc to avoid `shaken' shots. How many at times do we carry a tripod with us all the time 24/7 (almost!!) unless you plan the said event or use it as your defense weapon. I salute those who are known for their `macro skills' and drool looking at the details especially of those taken of the insects. I like the vivid multi-colour of this hibiscus with the deliberation of blurring the flower, just keeping the tip focused for that slight personal touch. Can you imagine feeling the soft petals on your face? Have a fabulous weekend and keep shooting.
Someone mentioned this to me : just a bit of sexual connotation to this flower (most flowers) where the red stigmas (if that's what you call that) represents the female `organ' while the yellow pollen is the males'.

Love the macro Tricia.
Yes when you get this close to the flower it does seem v sexual :p nevertheless, thats nature for you :-)

This is a beautiful image Tricia, lovely focus on the center part of the flower. It would be impossible to carry a tripod with you at all times, with the heat and humidity you have where you live.

Love your words and love your beautiful flower shot Tricia!

Totally agree with DC about the wind factor. I really hate it most whenever I have the insect focused and `wham' the wind comes and destroys the shot. I almost wished I had a string to hold on to it or `deep freeze' the shot. I still haven't got the hang in using the flash as I found the details are burnt. I found that the angle we position the flash is vital in preventing that.

Wonderful hibiscus, Tricia!!!!! VOTE!

This is intense Tricia! Very beautiful. Agree with the tripod (very difficult for flying insects though), still have not decided on whether a flash produces good results for macro.... makes it easier, but something is lost (IMHO). Then again I suck at macro! BIG VOTE!

BIG VOTE Tricia... beautifully done. I find that my biggest "enemy" in macro is the wind. Even the smallest breeze... causes blur. The hardest thing to shoot in macro is... a spider web. Although it is very strong, 10 times stronger than steel, for a steel cable of the same size... the most minute breeze causes blur. I have yet to try a tripod added to a VR lens !
This hibiscus is really beautiful, you caught the pistils in a stunning image. Well done

I love this one! I think it's one of your best macros. The detail, the DOF, the colours, are all absolutely perfect. Big vote.
