Thanks to Jeanne Dammarell who wrote: "I have the new Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of
North America and I think I found your wasp on pages 350-351: Scolia ardens, a parasitic
wasp that lays their eggs on the larvae of scarab beetles. They range from Texas to California."
