I'm not quite sure what this is. I know it is some type of predatory insect based on the behavior I observed.

Really nice shot! This could be a robber fly of the genus Diogmites often called hanging thieves. They catch formidible prey and I believe I have some photos of one with a bumble bee which was an amazing sight to see! I have enjoyed looking at your galleries.
