77 years and aging - catman

Goat Rock Beach Sonoma Coast

My first photo of this tractor located at Goat Rock Beach Sonoma County California was circa 1972. I photograph it at every opportunity while living the area. The tractor was often covered with the sand and I rarely photographed the whole side as seen in this photo taken July 17. The tractor was used to excavate rock and place it in a 36 inch narrow gage railroad car. The rock was used to build a jetty on the Russian River.
In 1930 the 36 inch narrow gage track was destroyed by heavy surf. The tractor, the cars and much of the track was left to oxidize in the surf sand and air. The jetty was never completed.

The big transition, ashes to ashes, rust to rust. I love the story you told about this heap of metal and rust. It has a great history. Seventy-seven years, makes you wonder how many more generations will see this laying amoungst the rocks.
