This sphinx-like figure stood on top of an Ionic column near the Temple of Apollo in the upper sanctuary at Delphi.
She has the face of a woman, a bird like chest and a lower body of a lion.
The figure, how housed in the museum at Delphi, dates from about 500 BC.
