Elkmont cabin - Catman

Elkmont Smoky montains

This is one of the many abandoned cabins in Elkmont. Elkmont originally was a logging community developed Circa 1900. once completely logged out the company moved to Tremont in the Smoky Mountains. Both camps closed due to the National Pack service take over. however people continued to occupy these cabins as late as the 1940's

I took this picture the same day as my failed attempt to capture the synchronized fireflies that are unique in the this area.

Thank you all for yor comments and

Charley, you right, I did not look at this image as critically as I should have.

I was a bit lazy about processing it, but I was looking for soft closed-in old feeling and I liked the use of horizontal and diagonal branches as the hand rail and tried to emphasize it with the horizontal crop but failed to see that enormous wasted vertical space at the top of age.

Are any of them for sale? Maybe I could afford one. :o) I sure think the surroundings look perfect! Who needs electricity eh? ;o) Great story to go along with the photo Catmando!

Interesting background, and I like the claustrophobic feel to the surrounding forest. Thanks, Alistair

Love this one Catman......lots of interesting elements at work here. Just an opinion but I think it has too much info up top. Maybe even a bit off top and bottom. Either way you nailed that calm diffused light that is sooo nice in the Smokey Mnts. Good stuff man.
