Mels bass 2.jpg(1077)

Chillicothe rec area

This is my 2nd bass of the year. Probably in my life.
I was using a b/w devils horse that we had just bought the day before.
It's a funny story (sort of). It started about 7:45 am sunday moring. we were staying in the RV as we usually do weekends. I woke up with that moring urge w/ all intent to go back to bed. Well, I have ben turning the table into a bed at night 'cause it gets a good cross breeze. As I sat up, the edge on one side collapsed. Well, I had no bed to go back too so I decided to go check on the catfish poles we had left out for the night. & decided to take some baits & fish till wayne woke up. When I got to the poles the bait(artificial chicken liver) was gone & no catfish. I rebaited & recast then started out with a few othe jig baits to see if any bass were biting. Got nothing. Then I thought, what the heck, I will try the new devils horse.(never had luck with the other one (different color)). I cast towards the reeds a few times. Nothing. Straight out, nothing. Then about halfway between right bank & center I cast out thinking nothing gonna be there either when all the sudden a big splash & tension on the line... He didn't put up a big fight like I thought he would but it took me a few to get him to the dock. Then I had a delimma, how to get him on the dock without breaking my line & losing him & bait. Wayne/demmy's sleeping, no catch net... Can't grab mouth without getting all those treble hooks in my hand. So got on my knees, grabbed line & slowly pull him up. (less than a foot between water & deck). Well I succeded in that task, stood up to take to bucket (too small), as I turned, the line broke. That's when the dance started, him a floppin & me trying to keep him from the edge. I grabbed him by the body(finally) & half carried half threw him in the bucket> couldn't get my bait outta & off his mouth so went back to RV & woke Wayne/Demmy. He brought the camera cause the last one I had caught was about 14" & I told him this one was bigger...
