This panorama shows most of Silicon Valley. The left edge is looking north toward San Francisco. The right edge is south towards San Jose. Google is near the white spot (the Amphitheater) left of center.

If you hold up your left hand with the palm facing you, San Francisco Bay is like the space between your thumb and your index finger. Mountain View is located right at the south end of the bay. San Francisco is 45 miles or so north, right at the tip of you thumb. The golden Gate bridge goes from the tip of your thumb north across the westward facing entrance to the bay. The Santa Cruz Mountains are along yout thumb. This picture and the next were taken from there.
