Bergs 132
Off Signal Hill
**WINNER**

6th place STF Challenge 146 - "Distances"

Captured off Signal Hill this AM, using the full 20X zoom (35mm equiv of 734mm). Tripod mounted.
I watched this berg go by Quidi Vidi Harbour at 7AM from my bedroom window in Airport Heights.
At 10:40AM it was well south of St. John's Harbour. It was sure travelling!
Shhh... I have to confess... the boat was a lucky coincidence.
I didn't see it with the naked eye - or in the viewfinder. Didn't notice it until I got it on my computer ;-)

Beautiful scene - I love the layers of colors, and the small size of the boat compared to the iceberg, and the small iceberg compared to the large expanse of water!

Love the muted colors!!! The boat gives such wonderful scale to this image! Nicely done, Jerry.

Thanks for the kind comments, everybody. That boat is a fair-size private yacht with a flying bridge or pilothouse above the main deck., so probably measures 30-35 feet above the waterline.

Wow that's some capture of expanse and distance. The iceberg almost looks like a crumpled up piece of paper or something until you see the boat and realize the enormous scale of it and of the ocean itself. Incredible shot!

Great. I love the horizontal layers. The contrast in sizes really reinforces the theme: the grandness of the sky and ocean, the power and bulk of the iceberg, and the tiny speck of the man-made boat. Beautiful shades of blue as well.

Truly an eerie image, Jerry. Really well captured with that boat to anchor the perspective. Wonderfully muted blues & greens too.

This is really beautiful. Lovely shades of blue and the iceberg tells a story of a long journey. MCsaba
