So Concrete Barriers have been placed the length of the bridge which is several miles long except for one section where the whole bridge was demolished by Katrina and a steel temporary bridge has been installed. This Bridge was built in the late 1970's so it was not an old stucture, a new bridge for traffic in both directions is being constructed a few hundred yards to the south.
