They've gone great distances, gone to great lengths, taken great risks, and some have paid the ultimate sacrifice. At times, they must be distanced from those they protect. At times, their own nation's people distance themselves from them. And unquestionably, manhood is forged from innocence and childhood.
I was taken by the cold, somber expression during this folding of a flag which draped the coffin of one who has traveled the ultimate distance.
Thanks. This was taken at my grandfather's reburial last month - when he passed away a few years ago, our local Veteran's cemetary had filled and he was buried elsewhere - but they opened a new Veteran's cemetary and gave him a spot - so we had him moved here. My grandmother wanted me to take some pictures of the cemetary and the ceremony...and as usual, I found myself taking those little 'photographer' shots in between - like closeups of the soldiers folding the flag.
