If you look below the telephone pole on the right at the top of the hill you can barely make out the grey stone marker indicating the ambush site. I would guess that the posse sat up just past that rise in the hill to be out of site of the approaching Bonnie and Clyde and that their spotter would have clearly seen them approaching (see next group of photos).
