Gaudí's Caprice by FrankM

During the 19th Century Don Máximo Diaz de Quijano, brother in law of the Marquis of Comillas, gave to the Catalan architect Antonio Gaudí the job of designing a unique Neo Arab style palace, a result of his brother in law Eusebi Güell's fondness for the Arab history of Spain. Gaudi combines all his original construction ideas in this building, creating a small palace facing South, with spectacular colouring.

The house was built 1883-1885 for the Marquis of Comillas, standing in the grounds of his Gothic mansion.

great shot, great building.beautifully framed, especially with the leaves up top and down the left. the way you've captured this is delightfully confusing; it looks as if it's a miniature -- a dollhouse, almost -- but then you realize it isn't. good work.

I'm a Gudi admirer too, but I don't have visited this "capricho" yet. Thankyou for photographing and sharing, Frank. Great light; I love foggy landscapes. endika

Thanks Marc. It's actually in Comillas, Cantabria not Barcelona.

Cross a medieval look with a dolls house, add a pinch of oriental taste, and voilà, Gaudi is there... I should come back to Barcelone sometimes... Well explained Frank !

A fine entry Frank! It looks like it came out of a fairy tale! I bet it is really something to see. Everyone should have their own castle! :o)
