the gift

Wow 2 days ago see me playing bass at church http://www.pbase.com/clangley50/image/79972134
Cristi and I are finally cataloging our pictures and I ran across this one of me playing my bass in our garage band .
Year was 1969 and Yes those are white highwater bell bottoms and a ruffle shirt.
that's me on the far right with my mouth hanging open.
this shot seems like yesterday

time passes!!!

It also reminds me of a great gift that I got and wasted.
My dad played trumpet on weekends and he started taking me on the bandstand when I was7 years old.
He was good enough to play full time,he had a full ride to OU for his horn playing but he grew up in the depression. His dad did play full time.......during the depression. That is why dad got a steady job instead of doing what he loved (imagine what musicians made then) His wife ,my grandmother, played the organ for the silent movies in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His dad was also a great musician who wrote lyrics and music to a hymnal!! I only recently learned of this REALLY COOL
My dad forced me to take band and therefore I couldn't play sports,my love. I basically quit music because of that and stopped playing when I left home.
Fast forward to now. Boy was dad right(they get smarter as we get older you know)
I picked music back up and have had to stop competetive sports(the age/injury thing)
Now I have all kinds of instruments around and the kids are encouraged, not forced, to play and so far they all 3 love it.
there is also a musical genious or 3 in the lot(I'M not biased!!)

This is mainly for them to read in coming years to appreciate their heritage. The thing it took me almost too long to do.

THANKS DAD!!!

Oh yah Mojo inspired this with her childhood photo http://www.pbase.com/mojoflowerchick/image/79873248

Strange that you talk about time passing...I am writing about it on the 9th, when I turn 37. I do not age gracefully, I go kicking and screaming. Very cool shot. These are the kinds of pictures the kids will love in a few years.
