FLORIDA SOFTSHELL TURTLE (Apalone ferox)

Myakka River State Park - Sarasota Florida

Adult females can reach two feet in length. This species can inflict a serious bite, as it is equipped with a long neck, powerful jaws and a sharp jaw sheath. The Florida softshell is omnivorous, and feeds on snails, insects, crustaceans, amphibians and aquatic plants.
