Nice texture in the feathers, but then it was an overcast day with soft lighting. I think birding is going to require very careful stalking/hiding with a maximum of 300mm; I'd never be able to hand-hold shots with a teleconverter. Same applies to a DSLR of course, but I can manage that with anti shake at 450mm (equivalent) in reasonable light.
