Ludwigsburg Castle

Germany

... located just north of Stuttgart, the castle, modeled after the Versailles in Paris, was actually begun in 1704 by Duke Eberhard Ludwig as a hunting lodge. Alas, like so many residential remodels, the castle now is the largest Baroque castle in Germany and consists of 18 buildings arranged around three courtyards and contains 452 rooms ( ... but only one bathroom ...which must have created some long lines when they had 400 house guests).

Nahhhhh ... only kidding ... I don't know how many bathrooms they had.

What a merry sight with all the begonias in bloom. The grand sweeping curve of the gardens sets off the strong horizontal of the castle to make a beautiful composition. Quite lovely.

Great photo and funny caption. I was believing that for a minute. Funny, I thought the thumbnail was the Louvre.
