A chaplain with the 82nd Airborne Division the then Fr. Philip Hannan made many jumps into enemy territory during World War II. One Christmas Day he said Mass in the snow for over 4,000 soldiers in France. He served as a very productive Archbishop of New Orleans for more than 20 years. Many things after Katrina would have been better had he still been on watch. Two Archbishops have succeeded him.
He is still as sharp as a tack in spite of having suffered a stroke several months ago. In this photo he is enjoying his birthday party.
