Genetic Reflections-Shirley
by Shirley Haden

Nine little Mallards just hatched this morning! I'm so worried about how they will cross a very busy road to get to the lake or river. I hope to see when they leave and escort them across the road. She laid her clutch of eggs right beside our side door!

Shirley, thanks for the update. I agree with you, let's be positive: they all made it.

Oh and Geo....thanks for that good story! I get depressed about people sometimes and it is great to hear about the good stuff in folks.

Thank you all for the nice comments and these little guys deserved them! Aren't they wonderful little things! And of course a news update for you about them. They were gone the very next day and I didn't see them leave. I just felt such a lump in my heart worried about them crossing the busy Shepard Road so I went on a drive and went up and down the road several times and all I can say for sure it there were no casualties on the road that I saw so, my guess is they all made it fine. Yeah!

Looks like Mama knew where her young would be protected. They are so cute. You must have felt very blessed.

Somehow I didn't really notice this picture. But the more I see it, the more I like it. I am also getting curious. I hope you will give us an update when they safely have crossed the road, preferably with pictures.
I saw about two weeks ago something funny. I was driving on the main road throught the village where I live. Then I saw mother duck and her kids crossing the road in a long line. The car in front of me stopped. The traffic coming from the other side also stopped. It was in the middle of the village. There was not much traffic, and everybody was driving slowly. There wasn't any danger for a traffic accident. I drove on with a smile on my face. I loved it. You cannot open a newspaper without reading about all kinds of atrocities that people commit on each other. But about six cars, maybe even more, stopped so a mother could bring her children to the other side of the road. It was a funny sight. Al those big cars and a line of tiny birds between them. I hope that you will also be able to tell us a story about a safe journey.

What a nice picture. You can see in their eyes a quetion; will she hurt as? They can't do anything about it, just wait to see what will gone be. With this title it's on them too.
