These guys become more aggressive during the fall, especially if you happen upon their nests when they'll sting in droves. Always move very slow, as fast motion annoys them. Unlike wasps, they usually won't wave their stinger in warning. They're easiest approached in early morning while temps are cool, but even then, be careful. And like all these guys, people usually aren't aware their resistance becomes less with each sting. In the US alone, about a dozen people die each year from wasp stings. Because they'd been stung before, they didn't get treatment in time. It's a good shot. Be safe, and be well. ;)
