This nebula and the associated open cluster (NGC 7380) are
located about 7000 light years away in the constellation
Cepheus. As is typical in such star-forming regions, the
hot young stars ionize the surrounding hydrogen cloud and
cause it to glow. The radiation from those stars has sculpted
ridges into the surrounding hydrogen cloud.
