M 22

M 22 is one of the largest and brightest globular
clusters in the sky. It is visible to the unaided
eye near the top of the "teapot" in Sagittarius.
It is also one of the globular clusters closest to
earth, between 8500 and 10,000 light years away.
M 22 was probably the first globular cluster discovered
(by Abraham Ilhe in 1665).
