The Courtyard

Peshawar City, Pakistan

The courtyard of the Sethi Mansion. The Sethis were the businessmen of Peshawar before partition. These traders earned huge profits in trade with India, Afghanistan and Central Asia. Their residence was built in 1882 by Haji Ahmad Gul. It is a beautiful example of old Peshawari architecture. It is in Sethian Mohallah which has many beautiful examples of Peshawari architecture.
It is right down the street from my house.

From CNK up towards Murree Mohallah was Lurgay Mandi. In the 80's there were still big lumber gadooms and mills, and I do know the pakora walla in Chowk. Remembering waiting at iftar time in bunch for pakoray.

i use to wandering in those stree after 91 and Chowk Nasir khan ,,,,how can forget that....i still remember Halwa puri of chowk Nasir khan and there was lumber market i think. you know the PEKAWARA SHOP just on the corner...very good pekawery chowk nasir khan was also famous for Coffin(tabooths)

When were you living in that area. I used to walk and smoke in same areas 1982-1992. And Chowk Nasar Khan was my second (night) home. I think you know it well?

i will be going after five years but i remember all the faces , shop, streets, almost every home you captured in camera. we used to walk and smoke in those streets, some time running after teasing shop keepers or hawkers...ahahahh what a nice time was that

I will be interested to see your snaps, and hear you news. I haven't been there in 11 long years. I was about to get on plane 2 years ago, but ended up in hospital, Khudai khu powaygee!

oh yes noor khan borther.......and there is a shrine also if you remember.....and may be you remember a doctor house.....DR Gul Bakawli......i still remember a small name plate on a house.....I got your home noor mohammad... next month i am going to pakistan after a long time and i will shoot all your picture again and will share with . ok

at that back street if you go left side, down towards Shaheen Bazaar (Mohallah Noor Islam) you come to my house in Dhaki Sharif Khan.

when you enter setian bazaar on end where a back street to to chowk shadi pir. on right side there is shop whop make sam steel box for medicines etc that mohalla is teen giran...

I am not sure which is 'teen giran'? The Sethi house is in Sethian Mohallah, between Luey Bazaar and Mohallah Noor Islam, where my house is.
