Sand Lizard

The story behind this shot is quite cool I thought - I found a male lizard in our kitchen this week and thought my cat had brought him in. That made me sad, after all, they are an endangered species, and my cat usually sticks to voles. The little fellow was cold and stiff and moved reluctantly, so I carried him carefully back to the meadow behind our house where a lot of sand lizards live and - I assumed - he was captured. The next day, I found him in our hall. The same animal, his tail is a characteristic, partly regrown stub. I took him out again. Today, I found him in front of our house, sitting on these stones. Do we have a new pet? ;-)

Yes, he's covered in ticks. After I made these photos, I approached him too closely and was threatened - he hissed and opened his jaws wide. I thought about getting the ticks off him as a small compensation for the photos, but I'm pretty sure he was stressed enough by my presence.
