A sleigh of course informs us that it snows here with long harsh winters.
Why else would someone have gone to the touble and expense of having one built in such a remote location?

It is enough to include the runner and tongue to inform us that it is a sleigh.

The Sleigh on a field of grass is pleasant enough, but a richer story is possible by including the gasoline can.
There is another layer of meaning with the inclusion of the likely much newer gasoline can as a symbolic time contrast against what is an older horse drawn vehicle that predates the use of gasoline.
It's also important to recognize that the high desert preserves wood well
and has enabled the sleigh and rusted can to remain mostly intact to even have the contrast be evident at all to us many long years later.

In spite of the contrasts there is also a sympathetic harmony in the colors that relates the objects.
