This image was taken at the site of the Keane Wonder Mine where gold was discovered in 1903. However, the miners at Keane, like so many others, had to bear the weight of their cross of gold as their dream of striking it rich met with failure. My thanks to my friend, Phil Douglas, for seeing these fallen pieces of wood as a metaphor for the cross of gold.
