The Smith Mansion is located in Wapiti Valley, Wyoming. It sits approximately 15 miles from the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park. Construction started in 1973. The creator/builder, Francis Lee Smith, was an Architect/Engineer. He spent nearly three decades building his mansion, his life's work. Smith died while working on the mansion in April of 1992.

The Smith Mansion has since sat empty. However, Smith's daughter, Sunny Smith Larsen, has begun a preservation campaign for the site and hopefully her efforts will keep her father's astonishing house from being destroyed by daring teenagers and superstitious tourists.

In October 2019, the Smith Mansion was sold to Zhiru Huang of Mountain Lodging, a lodging company that owns many properties in the surrounding Cody area, including the Green Creek Inn & RV at the bottom of the hill the mansion rests on.[6] Its sale price was not listed; however, estimates ranged between $250,000 and $500,000.
