Hardly any of the almost-destroyed boat houses along the West End stretch of the Lake have been touched. Owners or renters removed what was left of their personal belongings and looters took the rest from the wind ravaged, water swept beach houses. Most people are still waiting for insurance companies to settle.
However, boaters are back in the marina with or without their boat houses.
This evening our governor, Kathleen Blanco, announced that she would not seek another term as governor. With Hurricane Katrina destroying the southeastern part of Louisiana and three weeks later Hurricane Rita destroying the southwestern part of Louisiana the job was far beyond her reach, or anyone else's for that matter. Though she had been a successful legislator and lieutenant governor she found herself in a whole new ballgame following the hurricanes. She listened to the wrong advice from the wrong people and chose the wrong companies to assist in the rebuilding of Louisiana. As the first woman governor of Louisiana I had high hopes for her. It was not to be.
