The fort was built in 1862 and served as the center of military campaigns against the Chiricahua Apaches until 1886 when Geronimo surrendered. To get to the ruins of the fort, you first need to drive 6 miles along an unpaved road, and then hike 1.5 miles from the road to the ruins.
