Mar 17: One last roll

I’ve been talking with Todd (toddono) about shooting one last roll of Kodachrome. The daddy of colour photography, most of the my family's archives from the 60’s where shot on it, as was much of my early SLR photography. Paul Simon even sang a song about it. Then they invented the one hour lab and that was it for slides as far as I was concerned. But recently I discovered a passion for photographic artefacts. (My Oxford Mini dictionary defines an artefact as a man made object, which is odd as nowadays artifact (US spelling) seems to mean the nasty bits of jpg compression, over sharpening or digital noise, ie, the bad stuff that happens when you trust a computer with your pictures) No artefacts like slides, negs, and recently polaroids. Real touchy feely things. So Todd and I have decided to shoot one last roll of Kodachrome before it and it’s process are gone forever. That’s not the end of slides tho as I intend to keep shooting Provia in the Rollei and EBX in the Pentax just as long as I can...! Oh and B&W neg and Polaroids too!

My mom has boxes and BOXES of Kodachrome slides my grandfather took. I LOVE looking thru them

They scan nicely too...

I want to steal those from her

I have a lot of the same feelings myself. It is definitely on it's way out. I bought a few rolls of 64 and 200 and mailers while you can still get them and am stretching them out over the year, hopefully. Someone is a little more abitious though.http://www.kodachromeproject.com/

Shot two rolls last summer - they went off for processing and came back with cracked plastic boxes! Not quite the service of old anymore :-(

Oh, and I picked up two rolls of Kodachrome 64. It's too bad you don't live nearby, we could ship it all together and save on the cost...

Nice! Ah, the Kodak red and yellow. I heard that song in my head all day today as I ran my errands. I think you're right about the touchy-feely, too. I only have a few of the slides my family took when I was a kid, probably only four or five rolls' worth. It's sad, really. I would really appreciate them!
