This was one of those catch it if you can type of shots.
I was initially attracted by the birds that looked a bit like musical notes on a musical score.
That of course has absolutely nothing at all to do with Pigeon Point Light Station, but it was fun.
I will admit that I pondered what would that sound like if it was music? But that triggered an inquiry about where to go with this opportunity.
Alignment and Synergy of Meaning in an Image
Perhaps the interesting lesson here is the difference between imposed "symbolic meanings" from "found or inherent meanings".
Symbolic meaning borrows meaning and inherent meaning attempts to get at the essence of a scene.
Obviously musical symbolism is an abstraction that has nothing at all to do with power poles along roads, so it would be an imposed or suggested meaning (created).
On the other hand, seeing birds on power lines is something that we readily expect to see. So there are both symbolic as well as inherent (found) meanings to be experienced.
The very real danger with symbolic meaning is that they can either add or detract from an image.
Symbolic references can become trite or even silly or even so utterly familiar that it is boring.
And there are symbols that have so much cultural, religious or other baggage that perhaps they are best avoided.
To the extent that symbolic meaning is in alignment with the inherent meaning,
then there is a possible synergy than can resonate within an image making a more powerful expression.
