Tanzanian Tailless Whipscorpion

Common Name: Whip Scorpion - Tanzanian Giant Tailless
Scientific Name: Damon variegatus (Full Taxonomy)
Order: Amblypygi
Category: Arachnids

They are not spiders. The Tailless Whipscorpions are great for the experienced keeper's collection. Due to having a
gentle disposition they are also good for the beginner. Though they are harmless, these bizarre-looking creatures are
fast and agile and somewhat delicate. They can pinch with their claws but rarely do, choosing to run away instead.

They are great at controlling cockroaches. Unless you are a gecko or other small creature, the Tailless Whipscorpion
is harmless. They are shy nocturnal hunters that are usually found in warm humid locations, but they are also found
in warm arid areas. Tanzanian Giant Whip Scorpions can be found in the wild of Tanzania and Kenya.

At maturity, the Tanzanian Giant Whip Scorpion will grow to an amazing length of seven and a half inches with legs
spread. They do not have tails (hence the nickname). For defense, they will pinch, although they rarely feel the need.

*Please note that this species of tailless whipscorpion do not possess any venom, but it can pinch in defense.
This rarely-used defense does not hurt very much, but people should still avoid handling this tailless whipscorpion.
Affects of this tailless whipscorpions' natural defenses may vary between people. This tailless whipscorpion should
not be considered dangerous, but handling is still not, and never will be, recommended!
