I managed to find a flame lily plant here in Nz at a garden centre. It survived about 3 years and gave us beautiful flowers

I know someone here at Wits University who manages to grow small quantities of the bright red ones in his tunnels (the brown ones are more common in South AFrica) and makes a small fortune with those and his orchids for wedding arrangements.

When I got married recently I decided I wanted flame lillies as our main flower theme - before discovering they are almost impossible to get hold of in South Africa. Seeing this photo would have killed me after emailing about a million different florists! In the end we managed to get some flown down from Sakeji via several kind friends. They looked a little the worse for wear, but I picked one perfect one to wear on my jacket. Thanks for the photos Mr Bru.
