Masonic lodge meetings were held regularly in a drugstore here in the early 1800s.
But what made the place famous was proprietor and druggist Antoine A. Peychaud served after-meeting drinks of bitters and cognac
to lodge members in small egg cups, whose French name (coquetier) was Americanized to "cocktail".
