I recall after Hurricane Camille that elevation made a huge difference. I saw near complete destruction of gulf facing homes nearest the Gulf then a couple blocks further on the set back was about the same yet the structure remained. The difference was elevation. Indeed the destruction had a gradation as the slope upward had gradation.

The live oaks indicate that escaped the tidal surge. Perhaps away from the eyewall as well. Yet still.
