Unnamed Wagtail-Tyrant

Orinoco River Delta

We believe our group got the 1st ever photographs of this bird in the wild, and we all got good photographs! It was only recently discovered, along a stretch of the lower Orinoco.

We had about given up on this and the unnamed Spinetail, as we were losing light fast and a good 10 km (by river boat) to the next location that David had either of these birds in the past. David spotted an island that looked to have the right habitat, but that he had never tried for these birds before. We hadn't walked 100 feet from the boat when David yelled "I hear the Wagtail-Tyrants". We made a mad rush and all got great looks at three of these birds.

As we were watching and photographing them, David said he would go ahead and check for the Spinetail as well. In less than two minutes, David yells 'Spinetail'! We all get over to this location and have great, if a little skulky, looks at our 3rd Unnamed species of the day. Chris was the only one to get a photo of the Spinetail.
