Black-tailed Jackrabbit

Alviso, California

(Lepus californicus)

A Black-tailed Jackrabbit spends most of its day resting in a scratched-out hollow in the ground. They are generally most active at dusk and throughout the night. This one was hidden under a bush near the Alviso Environmental Education Center. It was a drizzly day and the rabbit was reluctant to leave it's relatively dry location. It remained motionless for the entire time I photographed it, hoping that it would be overlooked.
