Staged or not...doesn't matter to me in the least You've captured the tension here as well as great dof. jano

Well done, well staged, it looked very real to me. It's on topic and it tells a story, good job. Rich

Hey no worries Rod :-) After a year of doing these challenges I expect I may have a recognizable style to others (though I don’t know what that might be) and that isn’t so bad I guess, but I don’t want to become too redundant- you help to keep me honest. It took me a while to think when I’d previously done a dirty hand image, but there was the time I imitated Paul’s “Working Class Man” shot. Where has Paul been anyway? I miss having him around.
I’m happy my staging worked out okay Abs- this was a 4th class scramble route I call the “backyard spire” :-) We have an embankment with large granite boulders in the back yard and it was very easy to get my camera up there on a tripod. The hardest move required was reaching up to squeeze the button on my corded remote, I rate it about a 3.10 :-) I haven’t climbed for quite a while myself, but like so many outdoor fans here in Seattle was very much into it for a while. You may know we have all types of climbing close to town here from sport routes to multi-pitch climbs and glacial slogs. I’m not sure if I’ll get back into it again, it’s hard to find time to stay proficient enough to be safe and so many friends and acquaintances have been injured or worse unfortunately. I think if you only climb infrequently that’s when you make stupid mistakes. So do your homework to stay proficient and safe okay?

an excellent climbing photograph having the climber, with almost recognizable strained expression, in the background. is this a top-roped sports-route? what was the difficulty? dof is too shallow to guess anything. i love climbing but havent been out on mountains since last 6-8 months. i love when i see people doing 5.12s and 5.14s on exotic locations. i wish...oh well...some day :) -Abstract

Geez I sound a bit tough if its only one dirty hand shot before, maybe I'm looking at the set up rather than the shot. I think I would be impressed if I could see a 1000ft drop under you though:-)
Brent 11-Feb-2007 05:23
Thanks Sue Anne and Christina too- although I'm sorry to steal your thunder with this shot especially with you being such a great host and all :-) I guess now that you mention it this is the third time I've posted a hand dominant image here in these challenges Rod- hadn't though of that, but one of them was quite clean anyway ;-)
Rod 11-Feb-2007 02:58
Mmmmmm I can't say why I'm not so keen on this as it's well taken but with the recent memory of the other dirty hand shots you have posted this has a feel of I've seen it before. You're getting good at hand make up though:-)

Ah! You totally beat me to it. I was at the climbing gym the other day and tried to get this pic and just couldn't quite get it right. This is great!

Wow very nice emphasis on the hand and the DOF face behind the determination. I like it.
