| So this is looking SSW over the western end of the island. Mosquito pier juts out about a mile into the sea, I would think. In its lee, according to a navy map found on the internet, manatees are concentrated. We were lured by this prospect to snorkel there. Although we found a boisterous nursery for millions of very young fish and a generous sprinkling of big, fat, yellow sea stars wth red dots, we did not come across a single manatee. Next time... |
