You are right, Tom. I also took pictures of birds that I immediately identified as Fox Sparrows, a few feet away from this one. As I compare the photos, the only difference is that this one's streaks do not converge into a spot on the breast. I've changed the caption to say that this is a Fox Sparrow.
I decided these guys at Cascade are not hermit thrush,but are sooty fox sparrows mainly because their abdominals stripes do go down to below their legs where as the hermit thrush strypes stop in the chest and they have a faint wing bar as well. What do you think?
