15-JAN-2007 Ana Carloto

Lisboa

Monument to celebrate the times (between the 15th and 16th centuries)
when the Portuguese ships roamed the oceans and made known to all, many
places yet unknown.
It stands like a "caravel" with sails unfurled, ready to depart,
almost "licking" the Tagus river, its ever present companion.

Excellent balance in this composition and a great feeling of the scale!

Truly impressive, Ana... Like Roberto, love the contrast between the huge volume and the small boat.
And the light of course ;-)

Great angle and scale. You really made it look as if it's keeping a close watch at all passing boats and it's even more ready to sail now! Brilliant.

Superb composition, and details Ana! You really get the most out of these
moody, low-light shots. V

So impressive, especially beside the small boat. You have quite a history of exploration by Portugal.
BTW I like the hint of colour.

More than a photo, a Hymn to Discoveries.

The colours of melancholy, the gray mood, remind you of a fado for all who sailed and never returned.

Superb construction/composition which gives back effectively the feeling to be under a big discovery's boat... and beautiful impression of this little one with the so calm line he draws on the sea (looks like a gondola.. does he carry some P. wine?!;)

I see the mathematician back in this photo ;) Good 'play' with the shape of the monument and the landscape.

Love the big volume in the foreground, and the little boat appears by magic after one second watching. Excellent!
