Aerial view of Abu Simbel.jpg

As our airplane came in to land at Abu Simbel, I shot this image of the "new" site of the Rameside temples built by Ramses II at Abu Simbel.
The original site of the temples is some 200+ feet below the man-made mountain that is their new home.
When the temples were raised, engineers carefully sited them exactly as they were originally,
with the sun piercing the innermost sanctum twice a year on dates important to Ramses II's reign.

Unfortunately, It is no longer possible to photograph inside the temples at Abu Simbel.

Great shot, too bad it isn't sharper. It's very hard to do that from an airplane window. I travelled from Aswan to Abu Simbel by bus.
