Cardinal on Ice

This is the reason I wanted to buy this super big lens! I want to capture lovely images of the beautiful birds that visit my garden, and this male Northern Cardinal looked wonderful today on the ice covered branches. He was kind enough to even give me time to change lenses, I was in my kitchen, not outside in the freezing cold, or he would have flown away for sure (I don't have a blind like Jay does!). Thank you for posing so beautifully Mr Cardinal!

Excellent! Great composition and lighting. He looks a little puzzled
about how to get to any food through all that ice. V.

Very beautiful mix of stunning colors and light, not to mention having a
male cardinal sit still long enough to capture this shot!GMV

Such a beautiful image! I need to get beyond the 300 mm ceiling and make my mind up to pay for the "L" series. Also, need that 70 mm 2.8 ;-) This would be sad to miss for lack of good glass. Nice work Tricia! g

Even before I started birding, this guy was my favourite NAm birdie. I love his bright colours, and this is a great image, but bitterly cold. Rather give me 40ºC! Good ecposure. V

Oh WOW!! Just beautiful, like another poster said, picture postcard perfect! DOF is perfect I would say...I knew you were going to like the 100-400mm.....the colors are so bright and brillant as well. Great job!!

Great photo....400 is a good lense, if you went larger you would most likely need a tripod for such work.....also Cabelas blinds very reasonable that are portable...I use one and no problem to hike in with it.....Good galleries for sure...beau
